Project Overview

Alfa Testing Equipment, Ackcio’s monitoring partner in Turkey, deployed an Ackcio wireless monitoring system at a coastal resort hotel construction site in May 2026. The development spans roughly 10,000 m² and involves a deep excavation cut into sloping ground close to the shoreline.

With active earthworks underway and retained faces exposed during construction, the project team needed continuous slope-stability monitoring to provide early warning of ground movement, reduce risk to workers and plant, and support better day-to-day decisions as excavation progressed. Ackcio’s wireless tilt-monitoring solution was selected to deliver real-time data without trenching cabling across a live, fast-changing site.

The Monitoring Challenge

Slope stability is one of the most critical risks during deep excavation. As material is removed and retained faces are exposed, even small ground movements can threaten worker safety, plant, construction progress, and nearby structures. On this site, those conditions were intensified by challenging ground and a continuously changing layout as earthworks advanced.

The team needed a monitoring system that could:

  • Detect early signs of slope movement and tilt across the excavation in real time;
  • Operate reliably on a live, dusty construction site without relying on fixed cabling;
  • Be installed and repositioned quickly as the excavation profile evolved; and
  • Feed clean, continuous data that could be cross-referenced against the site’s finite element (FE) model of expected ground behaviour.

Ackcio’s Solution

Alfa Testing Equipment deployed five Ackcio Tiltmeters connected to a single Ackcio Gateway, forming a fully wireless tilt-monitoring network across the excavation.

The tiltmeters were mounted on the concrete edges and crest of the excavation to track the tilt and movement of the retained faces. Running on Ackcio’s long-range Mesh wireless network, the sensors transmitted readings back to the gateway with no cabling between instruments — a major advantage on a live site where trenching is impractical and machinery is constantly moving.

Because the system is wireless and battery-powered, units could be installed and relocated quickly to match the evolving excavation profile. Sampling intervals for any sensor can be adjusted remotely at any time, letting the team increase monitoring frequency during critical excavation stages and ease off during quieter periods — all without a site visit.

Key parameter monitored:

  • Tilt / slope movement of the retained excavation faces

Results & Impact

  • Improved safety: continuous, real-time tilt monitoring gave the team early warning of slope movement during the most critical excavation stages.
  • Better data for engineering decisions: clean, continuous tilt data could be cross-referenced against the site’s finite element model to validate expected ground behaviour.
  • No site cabling: the wireless Mesh network removed the need to trench cables across a live, constantly changing site.
  • Fast, flexible deployment: five tiltmeters and one gateway were installed quickly and could be repositioned as the excavation advanced.
  • Remote control of monitoring: sampling intervals were adjusted remotely from anywhere, allowing a rapid response to changing site conditions.

Client Feedback

“One of the most valuable features of Ackcio products is the ability to remotely adjust the sampling interval of any sensor at any time, from anywhere. This flexibility gives us better control over our monitoring systems and allows us to respond quickly and efficiently to changing site conditions.”

Future Plans

This deployment demonstrated how a compact, fully wireless tilt-monitoring network can support safe excavation on a live construction site. Building on the experience, Alfa Testing Equipment continues to apply Ackcio’s wireless monitoring technology to slope-stability and geotechnical projects across Turkey.
