In 2021, the city of Palembang completed the construction of a new toll bridge to better facilitate travel for motorists across the Ogan River.

To ensure its safe construction and operation, the 360 meters long bridge required consistent structural health monitoring while under construction and for post-construction tests. For this purpose, a system of 64 rebar strain gauges was installed to monitor bridge “death load” during construction and bridge “live load” post-construction.

The bridge construction team used Ackcio Beam to monitor the strain gauges in real time. Since December 20th 2018 11 Vibrating Wire Nodes (10 with 8 sensors and 1 with a single sensor) were deployed to transmit readings from the strain gauges to a single Gateway every 15 minutes.

The wireless monitoring system enabled geotechnical teams to detect cases of structural instability in real time and take early data-driven measures to prevent further damage, costly repairs, and potentially fatal accidents.

Using Ackcio Beam wireless monitoring system spared this client the greater cost and complications of a cable-based monitoring system as well as the impracticality and inefficiency of a manual monitoring system. Most importantly, it significantly improved safety conditions for all site personnel and helped minimize the disruption of daily traffic across the Ogan river.
